Population Notes
Novice Lifters

Deload less often — every 6-10 weeks. Progress is rapid and recovery capacity is high. A single reduced-volume week is sufficient. No need for full rest weeks.

Advanced / High-Frequency

Deload every 4-6 weeks. Higher training density creates more accumulated fatigue. Consider "active recovery" deload: 50% volume at 60-70% intensity with movement-focused exercises.

Powerlifting Pre-Comp

Pre‑competition taper (1-2 weeks): reduce volume 40-60% while maintaining intensity at 85-95%. This is NOT a deload — it is a programmed peak. Mid-cycle deload: every 4-5 weeks, take volume to 60% and intensity to 70%.

Return from Injury

Re-entry after injury requires an extended deload period (2-4 weeks). Start at 50% of pre-injury volume, progress by feel. Use RPE as the primary guide, not percentages.
